What to Wear and Bring to Iguazu Falls

Iguazu Falls is not a destination where you need complicated equipment, but the right clothing can make a long sightseeing day much more comfortable. Expect walking, humidity, sun, spray from the waterfalls and, if you add a boat ride, the possibility of getting completely wet.

Wear comfortable walking shoes

Both national parks involve walking, and the Argentine side generally requires more time on foot. Choose comfortable shoes with good grip. Lightweight walking shoes or supportive sneakers usually work better than heavy footwear in the warm, humid climate.

Dress for heat and humidity

Light, breathable clothing is usually the most comfortable choice. Quick-dry fabrics are especially useful because waterfall spray and sudden rain showers are common in the region.

Bring rain protection, but keep it simple

A lightweight poncho or compact rain jacket can be useful, especially if the forecast is unsettled. Even on a sunny day, some viewpoints near the waterfalls can be wet from spray.

Protect yourself from the sun

  • Sunscreen.

  • A hat or cap.

  • Sunglasses.

  • Water, especially on hot days.

  • A lightweight layer if you are sensitive to strong air conditioning in vehicles.

Do you need insect repellent?

It is a good item to carry, particularly for visitors who are sensitive to mosquitoes and other insects. The parks are surrounded by subtropical forest, so repellent can make the day more comfortable.

Do not forget your original travel documents

If your itinerary crosses between Brazil and Argentina, carry the original travel document required for immigration. A photo of your passport on your phone should not be treated as a substitute when immigration requires the original document.

If you are doing a boat ride

Plan as if you will get wet. A change of clothes can be useful, especially if the boat ride happens early and you still have several hours of touring afterward.

  • Change of shirt or lightweight clothing.

  • Waterproof pouch or dry bag.

  • Protection for phone, passport and wallet.

  • Footwear that can get wet.

  • Small towel if you prefer.

What should you leave at the hotel?

Avoid carrying unnecessary valuables and heavy bags through the parks. If you are on a private airport itinerary, luggage can often remain in the vehicle when this has been arranged in advance.

A simple Iguazu Falls packing list

  • Passport or required original ID for cross-border tours.

  • Comfortable walking shoes.

  • Light, breathable clothing.

  • Sunscreen.

  • Hat or cap.

  • Insect repellent.

  • Reusable water bottle.

  • Light rain protection.

  • Waterproof protection for electronics and documents.

  • Change of clothes if you are taking a boat ride.

Our practical recommendation

Pack light. The best Iguazu setup is comfortable shoes, breathable clothing and good protection for your documents and phone. You do not need to prepare for an expedition, but you should be ready for heat, spray, rain and several hours outdoors.
